Thanksgiving Turkey Shirt with FREE Cut File

I'm so excited to show you guys the shirt I just finished for my daughter to wear on Thanksgiving!

I've never done an applique {gasp!} and it was much easier than I expected. So, if you're a beginner and have wanted to try it, DO IT! It's so fun. For those of you who are pros at this and are laughing at my excitement over something so simple, try not to judge too much!

**UPDATE**

I have created a cut file to make this project even easier! You can use this file to cut the turkey face and feather pieces out of iron-on vinyl (HTV), felt, or fabric using your Cricut (or vinyl cutting machine).

This Turkey Shirt cut file set is just what you need for Thanksgiving! There are four different file types included in the download, so you should be able to cut it with any cutting machine, including a Cricut. What you'll need:

T-Shirt

Fabric in colors you want to use - I used plain, old felt

Sewable Iron-On Adhesive

Sewing Machine, Iron, etc

I freehanded all the shapes and cut them out. You can use a cup, paint bottles, etc for the circles, and folding the feathers in half to cut them out made things a little easier. Trace the shapes onto the iron-on adhesive and cut those out. Follow the instructions on the packaging and iron the adhesive to the wrong side of the fabric. Felt doesn't have a wrong side, so just pick a side and try to remember not to accidentally turn them over (the adhesive may not fit right).

Iron your shirt well and peel off the adhesive backing on the pieces. Place the pieces where you want them to go on the shirt. It said to hold the iron on for about 2 seconds, but the felt needed to be ironed for a lot longer since it was thicker than regular fabric.

I sewed the back feathers, white part of the eyes and beak first using white thread. You can pin down the edges if you'd like. I noticed a few of my edges popped up a little during sewing since I had to bunch up the shirt sometimes to get to certain areas of the shirt. I sewed inside the shape a little bit (you can see what I mean in the photo below).

Next, I ironed on the pupil part of the eyes and the "gobbler" thing.

Then I sewed it on using black thread.

And that's it!! I love it!!

I still need to add a little bow above the left eye to make it a little more girly.
